satitate vs change

Posted by Admin on September 19, 2008 @ 6:17pm

New Blog
quote:
"
Satiate versus change

The thing about change is, most of the time we think it is harder than just forgetting about it. Satiating in whatever we like to do: drink, smoke, sex, drugs, video games, whatever. Some of the satiating activities are harder to nail down, because we can actually satiate in thing that are good for us! (like working out) But, I notice that I often feel a strong impulse to go satiate in something rather than change my inner feelings and my inner state, as if that change is really tough. But it’s not! You can change it, it’s just a choice, and then the thing you were suffering about in the first place becomes so much smaller and more realistic; you can see it more for what it is, rather than as this huge object of your suffering.

Still, even though I have lots of evidence to prove that changing my own perspective, my own self rather than just going and satiating in something actually isn’t that hard, and ends up bringing me much more of what I want out of my life, I still notice I have this long-held belief that change is hard, too much, or just not worth it. Funny, hey?

Mark.

Next record

Another blog

"
Next Record!

I’ve been thinking a lot about my next record, and I want to make something that has more of an R&B feel to it. I loved making Magic Spell (Compelx State Of Attachment’s first single) and I want to make more music that has that feel to it.

I’m also thinking about recording one or two covers. Possibilities include Living For The City by Stevie Wonder, and possibly cover an old jazz standard a la 60’s Motown.

what would you like to hear on the next record?

Mark.

ps: don’t forget to go to the archive blog to see my video blogs from Ireland where I was shooting the Showtime series The Tudors with Jonathan Rhys Meyers!

Article and photo

Posted by Admin on September 04, 2008 @ 9:41pm

quote:
"Hildreth released his debut album, “Complex State of Attachment,” this summer.

I’ve loved Hildreth’s music since the first time I heard it on his Web site four years ago in its rawest form: Just him and the piano, recorded on his equipment or from a live performance.

If I had to describe his music then, it would have centered around one word, blues. Sometimes sad, but always soulful, his early music reflected everyday life and could be related to on a personal level.

I had expected a good first album, having seen Hildreth live numerous times, and heard the live versions of half of the songs on “Complex.“

A man with his piano is grand, but the vision Hildreth created with producer Warne Livesey far exceeded my expectations. In fact, Hildreth managed to floor me with the scope of his creation.

Gone is that trace of sadness I once found in his lyrics and sound. In its place is a complex look at love and life, and an ideology of living to the fullest. In fact, the album title is based on something the Dalai Lama once said about love — that it is “a complex state of attachment” — and Hildreth has succeeded in creating a compilation that reflects that ideology.
